AI-powered Receipt and Expense Management Platform
We rebuilt SaveIT’s back-end and mobile apps, moved receipt recognition onto a modern AI stack, strengthened security and integrations — and gave the product a new website to match.

The challenge
SaveIT needed its core AI to become something the company owned, measured, and could improve.
SaveIT was live on iOS, Android, and the web, with users relying on it to capture receipts from photos and email, recognize the data, and organize expenses. The product’s most important capability — reading a receipt and extracting its line items — depended on a model hosted outside SaveIT’s own infrastructure, and accuracy was judged by feel rather than tracked as a number.
At the same time, the product had to do more than store receipt images. It needed to reliably extract merchant, date, totals, taxes, and line items; categorize expenses; sync cleanly with accounting software; and support teams as well as individuals. Our task was to rebuild the back-end and the parts of the app that carried this complexity, put the AI layer on a foundation SaveIT controls, and keep shipping to users throughout.

Project Overview
A central platform for receipt and expense management
SaveIT is an AI-powered platform for receipt management and expense tracking. It collects receipts from photos and connected inboxes, extracts the key data, categorizes expenses, and keeps everything in one place — with shared workspaces, approvals, and reporting for business use.
Mobile-first capture, web-based management
We work across the full product: the iOS and Android apps, the web platform, and the back-end behind them. The mobile apps are built around a fast everyday flow — scan or upload a receipt and get structured, recognized data back within moments. The web platform covers the broader scenarios: expense history, reports, team workflows, and accounting sync.
Automated receipt collection from Gmail and Outlook
A defining part of the experience is automatic receipt collection from email. Users connect Gmail or Outlook, and SaveIT detects receipts in the inbox, extracts the relevant information, and adds them to the platform — no manual uploads.
What we did
Technologies used
- Ionic + Angular with Capacitor (iOS, Android, web)
- NestJS (back-end)
- MongoDB
- Gmail and Microsoft Outlook (OAuth)
- Google Cloud Platform
- Anthropic Claude on AWS Bedrock (receipt recognition and categorization)
- QuickBooks Online API
- Stripe
Diffco built and supports the AI behind SaveIT — the models that read a receipt and extract its line items — and helped us decide where AI belongs and how to measure it. They turned accuracy from a gut feeling into a number we track, and told us plainly when the problem was in our data, not the model. Deep, direct, and easy to work with.
